Mammylu's House

Mammylu, Mother of 3, letting the random stuff out of my head a bit at a time…

Category: weight loss diary

Today sucks

So… There have been some issues recently which meant stuff changed. Over the last three weeks I ditched Zumba and Pilates. And even the gym for a bit. I didn’t want to, but I couldn’t keep paying for stuff when we can’t afford it. So.. There you have it. I got back to the gym a couple of times this week, but my program (and reduced price) ends on Tuesday. So, that’ll be the end of that for the foreseeable future.

The thing is… Something I hadn’t expected had happened… I’d actually started to enjoy going to the gym (I know, it’s hard to believe). Once I got past the boredom bit, me and my iPod were quite enjoying the time together. We’d made a new playlist and everything.

Anyway.. Enough with the depressingness (new word- I think I like it). I’m going to have a cup of tea and I’ll speak write type to you all later.

Plans for the day include laundry… A trip out to buy some birthday gifts and possibly see the festive lights in the park. There’s some kind of ‘glowing orb’ visiting tonight, if it’s any good I may post pictures.

Tuesday night ramblings

So, technically, it’s the night before this week’s weigh in. But I’m not going to get held up on that tonight.

Technology has made an attempt to catch up with me, and today I’m figuring out how to type in a playbook, so, as usual, apologies for the rubbish typing!

This weekend was the continuation of backyard work. So, I pretty much stayed in with the kids. However, I got a pass out from husband on Sunday night and managed to sneak in a few pints with my Dad. As a vegetarian, nice beer is getting increasingly harder to get as lots of breweries are using findings, resulting in what can only be described as icky fish beer.

We went to a nice pub, with nice beer, called the isis, which sells lovely beer called erdinger (if you haven’t tried it, I’d recommend it). 20120911-211735.jpgThe was a live music too, some members of a band called the longsands were playing, and they were pretty good, doing a mix of covers and original stuff. It reminded me of life before children when that was my normal weekend routine.

But still, it is weighday tomorrow. And gym, which will be worse, as the nice man put extra stuff on my key to try out. And zumba. And soft play. And food shopping. It is daddy day care after all!

Progress report

20120905-214911.jpg

This is me, today. I had lost 1 lb. The lady had converted my weight from kg wrongly, I think. So, I didn’t gain weight, but I didn’t speed up my weight loss either, I slowed it down.

I’m not making excuses, but I think it’s been harder to control my diet as I’m weaning the littlest. Feeding him used to give me an extra 500 (roughly) calories a day, which helped cover up when I slipped. So, the answer? No more slips! Better willpower!!

Still working on how I’ll get that though!

Been to the gym and Zumba today. And I didn’t cheat on my weights (have been doing more reps at a lower weight due to ouchiness) and tried one set of reps on the leg press at 50kg instead of 40. The other 2 weights things I do are 20kg they are something to do with upper back, and chest press, I think!

Was a bit gutted at the gym when I checked my results and it said I’d burnt 6 calories less on my cardio stuff. Not a lot, but I really tried to do more today! Hopefully I’ll be better on Friday. So, this post is more motivational. I hope.

In other news, there’s now other people at Zumba using the machine I use before class to do a health check. I started a trend!!

The big weigh in

No weight gain, no weight loss. Stayed the same! Waiting for Zumba. The machine here says I’ve lost 1lb since last week. But i’ll trust the NHS lady!

The night before weigh in…

And all through the house, no sweeties were eaten, not even a chocolate mouse….

And I do have some chocolate mice. I did eat some starburst though. There was less fat in them.

I’m now writing this on an iPod. So, apologies if the typing is worse than usual (good luck to the autocorrect figuring out what I’m trying to say!). This is because of a major wifi failure, which led to lots of trying to fix stuff, and resulted in my laptop and iPhone having a very long conversation (about 2 hours so far). I got bored and am in bed.

Obviously, the wifi is currently alive, or I wouldn’t be able to post this. We can’t have pictures though. Unless they’re from photostream. Hmmmm…. Just realised that hasn’t been working in ages and is now updating. I love technology!

Anyway, today’s big crisis was little person’s immunisations. All 3 of them! Very stressful for mammy, worried about having a 2 nearly 3 year old with us (last time he made a big scene). But it was ok. Big one read a story with me in the waiting room. Pretended to read it while watching them jab baby. Baby screamed. Then baby laughed at people watching him.

I gave him calpol (paracetamol) and he went to bed early, with only a breast feed. This is unprecedented, as even before the current weaning program (his teeth are too sharp, and bitey), he had an 8 oz bottle every night. Anyway, he seems to be ok. He never has medicine, so it’s possible that’s made him sleepy.

Sweeties were bought as rewards (yes, I bribe my toddler) and everyone survived.

But I should be sleeping… And I’m not. Quite frankly, I’m dreading tomorrow. Well, it has to be done! Let’s just see how bad it is, then I can start again. Repeat 500 times, ‘I will lose weight’.

Goodnight folks.

Off course, of course

So, I’ve been quiet for a little bit. I put 1lb back on, and have been off track ever since. Am now actually worried about getting weighed on Wednesday. Never mind! Tomorrow is another day.

One of the reasons for my naughty eating habits this weekend has been my house. It’s having a birthday next year, it’ll be 100. And it needed a repaint (outside) and a boundary wall repairing. So we thought. A couple of days work. So we thought.

So, we packed off the kids, my dad (all round DIY expert) came over and… Stuff starting dropping off, and looking damp (never a good thing!). In short, part of my house that was rendered is now naked.

I have some pretty red bricks though! So, how does that make you eat badly? I hear you ask… Well. When working, it is customary to feed the workers. Something quick and easy, so as not to interrupt the work much. So, chips and vegetable pakora for lunch. It’s also customary to provide refreshments. Which means beer. And as the kids were staying out, it meant more beer later (and a date night, but I’m going to try a ‘proper’ serious write up on that one next).

So, it’s all gone a bit awry. But I have been burning calories doing crochet (If google says it burns more calories than watching telly, I believe it!) and have finished of a couple of projects that have been hanging around:

Just for clarification, the blanket was the project, not the baby! He’s the blanket tester. I also made a couple of new things:

I’m trying to make a hat right now, which is a bit of a challenge. And I want to write about what I did at the weekend, but my broadband is off (as usual!) and I can’t figure out how to link to the site on my phone. I’m sure I’ll find a way!!

When’s payday again?

How come the last week before payday is so miserable?

And how come I can’t give up sugar?

And how come it’s raining today?

I was having fun at the beach 😦

So, anyway, we’re plodding on. Not doing to well on the food and exercise front, the food part is purely my lack of self control, the exercise part is the lack of babysitters and weather going dodgy.

Right now everyone in my house is having a nap and I can’t sleep. I’m really tired though. But nevermind! We’ve been to the beach, until the rain came.

Larger child had fun, we were there last night too, I took him for a paddle in the sea. I’m glad I live near the sea, it makes for good child amusement! They showed a movie in a local park last night, I tried to talk husband into going, but he wouldn’t go see dirty dancing. I think he’d have probably spent most of the time playing football with child anyway, so I’m gonna work on him for next time!!

The seaside:

I had a bit of a vigilante moment this week…. I’ve noticed an increase in ‘scrap men’ on the streets, picking up metal to sell. A while back, one even knocked on my door and asked if some stuff in my yard was rubbish. For the clarification of any Americans, when I say yard, I mean area of concrete with ten foot wall around it.

So anyway, i’m in the house with the baby while the larger child is at nursery, and suddenly my cats come running in the house. I look out of the window, and I see a man climbing out of my yard, with larger child’s highchair (it was left out there).

So, I grabbed the baby, my keys, and my phone and gave chase! They promptly dumped the highchair, but I took some lovely pictures of their truck. Which I have to the nice policeman who came shortly afterwards.

Then a bit later I realised that chasing a truck full of men armed with an iPhone and a baby might not have been a good idea.. But nevermind! I hope the police scare them, because I haven’t felt very safe in my own home since then, and that sucks. Well, such is life! Anyway, time to go dry my hair, I’m in a phase of pretending to be girly. (I can try, I might convince someone).

It’s a biscuity kinda day…

So far today, I have eaten 2 weetabix, some vegetable crisps and 5 digestive biscuits. I feel sick. I won’t be getting out for a walk, as my big kid is ill.

Not going well, come back resolve! I need you! Where has motivation gone??

On another note – I sent his to my husband at work, it about sums up my day so far:

Mammy day care would like to point out that sick Toddlers and one toothed vampire babies are not accepted in day care. Sick toddler is either hot or cold and is residing on the sofa, refusing to let mammy leave. Whilst vampire baby was being put to bed for biting people and extreme tiredness, sick toddler’s toe was bitten by a passing cat. Cat has been ejected, no injuries or tears, cat not told off as possibly self defence.

I should change that to probably self defence though!

Not too achy

So, yesterday I went for my first proper gym session. It wasn’t too bad, and I’m going back tomorrow. And I’ve been reasonably good today. Chocolate buttons were eaten, but I needed them. Not sure why, but it did!

Gym man said that they’ll probably get me to start using weights next week, that sounds scary!!

Chilli noodles, veg and not chicken pieces or lunch:

And jacket potato and salad for tea:

20120810-231805.jpg
Low fat soft cheese, of course. Larger child was at nursery, and smaller child and me met my sister and smallest niece to go to a gig largest niece was doing to end a week long music course.

Baba was not too impressed by the volume, bless him, and we had to go and stand at the back.

Am now enjoying a little drink before bed! ‘night all xx

Getting there slowly, maybe?

So, today was fat class weight loss class, and I lost another couple of pounds. Which is better than I expected!

Today we learnt about the different kinds of fat, which I genuinely didn’t know too much about before today. So that was interesting. It’s swimming on a Wednesday afternoon. I haven’t been in the pool since going back to work after having my first son, and haven’t worn a swimming costume since I was about 4 months pregnant. So… Today I did both. Kinda brave, I thought. Especially as I’m one of very few people who can’t swim. I get scared, and sink.

Now, sunderland has a very nice swimming pool, in a shiny and still relatively new aquatic centre. I know this, as I’ve sat in the spectators area. And felt slightly ill. So we stick with the nice small pool near us, and I still got nervous about going in with my 4 month old (his first time, and he loved it). Oh, and just for the record, my complete lack of water confidence is due to a bad childhood experience. I’ve had lessons and stuff but it just boils down to the fact that as soon as my feet leave the floor, I panic. So I gave up, and currently work on trying not to pass that trait onto my kids.

After swimming, McDonald’s, to keep the boys happy. I may have eaten a veggie wrap. But I was hungry! Then of to Zumba for some torture exercise, which was ok. Stupidly hot and slightly painful, but unless I keep going through the pain, I won’t feel better.

Still not taking the blood pressure tablets the doctor prescribed. BP tonight was 109/87. I can’t see anything wrong with that!! Keeping a close eye on it, as I don’t have a death wish, just white coat syndrome!

My husband is snoring really, really loudly, I’m off to see if I can sleep through it. Or poke him ’til he stops. Either works for me! ‘night folks!
